MPA Talk
The first “MPA Talk” took place virtually on 28 March 2024, gathering members of the Steering Committee (China, Republic of Korea, and the Russian Federation) of the North-East Asian Marine Protected Areas Network (NEAMPAN). Its primary goal was to discuss how to strategically revitalize NEAMPAN reflecting its achievements and challenges over the past decade. Discussions highlighted the need to expand NEAMPAN sites and proposed additional thematic seminars and collaborative initiatives, such as enhancing ecological connectivity among MPAs and implementing localized MPA management approaches. Participants also underscored the importance of showcasing the benefits of NEAMPAN to MPA managers, leveraging the UN framework for wider impact, and fostering stronger partnerships with international and regional organizations. The next “MPA talk” is scheduled for Q3/Q4 2024, aiming for deeper discussions with broader stakeholder engagement.
