International Forum to Combat DLDD in NEA and the Capacity-Building Workshop on Addressing Desertification and Land Degradation in North-East Asia: Impact of Climate Change and Sectoral Policies

24 September 2025 - 26 September 2025
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
DLD Forum and Workshop

Desertification and land degradation (DLD) threaten ecological health, economic sustainability, and livelihoods in North-East Asia, with climate change intensifying droughts, resource scarcity, and food insecurity. To address these challenges, ESCAP’s East and North-East Asia Office (SOENEA) is implementing the project “Strengthening the Capacity to Address Desertification and Land Degradation for Sustainable Development in North-East Asia” under its Regional Programme of Technical Cooperation. As part of this effort, a Capacity-Building Workshop will be held on 25–26 September 2025 in Mongolia, beginning with a Subregional Forum on DLD co-organized with the National Forest Agency of Mongolia and DLDD-NEAN, followed by two days of technical sessions. The workshop will enhance technical and policy capacities of government officials, promote knowledge exchange and sustainable land management practices, strengthen regional cooperation, and foster joint initiatives, contributing to preparations for UNCCD COP17 in 2026.
