The NEASPEC Consultation Meeting on Transboundary Nature Conservation will be held on 26 February 2018 in Incheon, Republic of Korea, to advance a NEASPEC project on the conservation of Amur tigers and leopards in transboundary protected areas in North-East Asia.

Since the adoption of Nature Conservation Strategy in 2007, NEASPEC has conducted a series of researches and consultations among member countries, and implemented projects to conserve the Amur tiger and leopard of which many of them cross borders of China and the Russian Federation as well as DPRK. The latest project facilitated a field survey and joint analysis of China and the Russian Federation on the number and behavioral pattern of tigers and leopards crossing the national border, thereby enhancing knowledge of ecological connectivity across the border.

To take such scientific progress one step further, this consultation meeting will develop a follow-up project on strengthening cooperation between governments as well as neighboring protected areas in the two countries, and improving the condition for establishing a transboundary protected area. New project will also contribute to achieve SDG15 (Life on land), specifically target 15.5 "take urgent and significant action required to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt the loss of biodiversity and, by 2020, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species" at the subregional and national level.
