International Forum on Tiger and Leopard Transboundary Conservation

Date & Location :

28-29 July 2019, Harbin, China

International Forum on Tiger and Leopard Transboundary Conservation will be held in Northeast Forestry University in Harbin, China from 28 to 29 of July 2019. The Forum is jointly organized by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) of China, Northeast Forestry University, North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation (NEASPEC), international NGOs and local administrations in China. NEASPEC Secretariat and Department of Wildlife Conservation of NFGA will also jointly organize a Workshop on Transboundary Conservation of Big Cat Species in North-East Asia as one of the parallel sessions on 29 July 2019.

Each range country of big cat species has made significant efforts for strengthening domestic policy measures and scaling up of the financial and human resources. Also, there has been growing webs of communication and collaboration across the borders. However, there is still a great need for establishing a partnership platform to make transboundary cooperation more efficient and effective. In this sense, this forum will be a great occasion by bringing governments, academia, NGOs and international organizations all over the world together to review the latest progress in conserving big feline species and discuss ways forward to establish a platform for transboundary conservation. NEASPEC workshop, in particular, will discuss how to regularize scientific assessment and information sharing among key stakeholders. The forum is expected to release tentatively named “Harbin consensus on strengthening cooperation in cross-border conservation of tigers and leopards” as a key outcome.
